Family Promise Hires Executive Director

Family Promise of the Lakes Region Announces Executive Director Ahead of Fall Launch [Laconia, NH] — Family Promise of the Lakes Region is proud to announce the hiring of its first Executive Director, Nicole Shedd, marking a significant step forward as the organization prepares to launch services for local families later this summer.

Shedd brings a strong track record of leadership and a deep commitment to supporting children and families. In her new role, she will lead the development of programs focused on homelessness prevention and long-term housing stability for families in the Lakes Region.

“I’m excited to bring my experience and passion for serving children and families to this important work,” Shedd said. “Every family deserves stable housing and the opportunity to build lasting independence. I’m honored to help launch Family Promise services in the Lakes Region and to partner with the community to make that vision a reality.

” Family Promise of the Lakes Region, the newest site in Family Promise’s national network, is set to begin serving families in late August. Its initial focus will be on eviction prevention and shelter diversion, providing support and resources to help families remain in their homes whenever possible and avoid entering shelter.

“These efforts are about strengthening families before a crisis escalates,” said Carolyn Gordon, Chief Program Officer, Family Promise National. “By focusing on prevention and stabilization, we can help ensure children in our community have the safe, stable homes they need to thrive.” While services have not yet begun, the organization is actively building community partnerships and preparing for a strong launch. In the coming months, residents and local organizations will have opportunities to get involved through volunteering, collaboration, and support.

Prior to joining Family Promise, Nicole served as State Director for GEAR UP New Hampshire at the Education Alliance for New Hampshire. Her career spans nonprofit leadership, independent school administration and teaching, community-based advocacy for justice-involved youth, and program development in Oregon focused on expanding access to safe, affordable healthcare. Across each role, she has been dedicated to building inclusive systems and fostering community growth. Nicole holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and a Master of Education from Concordia University, and she is currently pursuing a doctorate in education.

Family Promise of the Lakes Region is part of Family Promise, the nation’s leading organization focused on preventing and ending family homelessness. With nearly 175 locations nationwide, the organization creates solutions, leverages local assets, and advocates for families facing homelessness. This work creates meaningful impact, reduces community costs, and keeps families together. Since its founding in 1988, Family Promise has served more than 1 million family members.
