A Note from Our Executive Director, Nicole Shedd

It is an honor to welcome you to the very first newsletter of Family Promise of the Lakes Region!

This is an exciting time for our organization and for the families we’ll serve in the Lakes Region. After months of planning, listening, building partnerships, and laying the groundwork, we are thrilled to officially launch our programming and begin providing prevention, diversion, and stabilization services to families with children experiencing housing instability in the Lakes Region.

Family Promise of the Lakes Region believes that homelessness does not define a family's story and, whenever possible, it should never have to begin. Our goal is to partner with families early, before a housing crisis becomes homelessness, and surround them with the practical support, resources, and relationships they need to move forward. Every child deserves a safe and stable place to call home. 

Our  program is designed to work alongside families, to identify their goals, and address the barriers standing between them and stability. Whether that means helping a family avoid eviction, connecting them with food or childcare resources, navigating housing options, supporting employment, or connecting them with community services, we are committed to walking alongside families for long term stabilization. 

Family Promise of the Lakes Region is built on partnership. We are grateful to the community organizations, schools, businesses, faith communities, volunteers, donors, and our talented Board of Directors who are aligned with our mission and helped us reach this moment. This shared commitment is where impact begins. When families have stable housing, parents have better access to employment, kids are able to succeed in school, and families can begin building a more secure future. Family stability is community stability. Together, our work can be a lasting part of the Lakes Region's response to family homelessness, one that not only responds to crisis, but also strengthens families, advocates for children, and contributes to a healthier and more economically resilient community.
